With the regular deadline just around the corner, this is the time to get your application in order before the late fee window adds extra cost and extra stress to an already important decision.
Step-by-Step Guide to Registering for GATE 2027
Step 1: Set Up a Verified DigiLocker Account
For GATE 2027, DigiLocker-based registration is mandatory for all Indian nationals. Before you even open the GOAPS portal, create or update your verified DigiLocker account and link it to a valid government ID. This single step trips up more candidates than any other part of the process, so don’t leave it for the last day.
Step 2: Register on the GOAPS Portal
Visit the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in, and click on “Proceed to GATE 2027 Registration.” Sign in using your DigiLocker credentials and complete e-KYC verification, including a live photo capture where prompted.
Step 3: Fill in Personal and Academic Details
Most of your personal details will be auto-fetched from DigiLocker. Review them carefully, then fill in your communication address and academic qualification details.
Step 4: Select Your GATE Paper(s) and Exam Cities
Choose the GATE paper relevant to your discipline (or an eligible two-paper combination, if applicable). You’ll also need to select up to six examination cities from within the same zone, in order of preference.
Step 5: Upload Documents
Upload your photograph, signature, and photo ID as per the specified guidelines:
- Photograph: White background, front-facing, 200×260 to 530×690 pixels, 5–600 KB, with 60–70% face coverage
- Signature: Black or dark blue ink, 250×80 to 580×180 pixels, 3–300 KB
Step 6: Pay the Application Fee
During the regular registration period, the fee is Rs. 1,000 for female, SC, ST, and PwD candidates, and Rs. 2,000 for all other candidates (per paper). Note that fees rise during the extended window, so applying now saves you money as well as stress.
Step 7: Preview, Submit, and Download
Carefully review every section of your form before final submission, corrections later are limited to the rectification window (October 14–21, 2026). Once submitted, download and save your application form PDF for future reference.
Pro tip: Don’t wait until September 27. Servers get overloaded in the final days, and any DigiLocker or document issue can cost you the entire regular window. Apply early, apply calmly.
